Interview RTV Marbella – World environment day in La Adelfa dune area, Bahía de Marbella

5th JUNE - WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY - FROM THE MOUNTAINS TO THE SEA This day we really got lucky. We had no less than 3 independent events in the La Adelfa dune in Bahía de Marbella.1º-The sponsors of this dune - ECOS-Attendis – carried out a dune conservation exercise with total responsibility, using horticultural scissors to cut the lilac panicles of the African or Crimson Fountain Grass (Pennisteum setaceum). This is classified as highly invasive. The seeds are very light and are easily dispersed. They also cleared up the ground beneath some 47 pine trees, thus getting rid of dangerous brush.2º-The school children from BEN AL JATIB Secondary School in El Rincon de la Victoria gained a new experience thanks to the Club de Montaña (Mountain Club) which brought them to Marbella. They got a friendly competition going among themselves and thus in a very short time they had filled the container prepared to collect the unwanted biomass for its subsequent disposal, with 3,260kg of invasive Highway Ice plant (Carpobrotus edulis).3º-The third event was something new for us. Pre-selected contestants came from France to show by their work in our dunes that they deserved to win holidays donated by the "Fun and Activity" program of a French TV Channel – a really novel challenge!A BEAUTIFUL AND VERY SATISFACTORY ENVIRONMENT DAY – getting almost 100 young people aware of and enthusiastic about the need to get involved in looking after the environment is a joy.A big THANK YOU to everyone who took part!
