AT HOME WITH YOU - Week 2

WE ARE CLOSE TO YOU

ProDunas wants to feel useful these days, so we has set out to design a page on our website with suggestions to liven up the day to day grind during these weeks of lockdown.

We will publish suggestions for people of all ages: reading material, films and drawings, so that the especially the smallest ones in the house can, for example, spend some time colouring in the drawings. We are thinking of all the children who are stuck at home. This way they can learn something about the Marbella dunes.

If you would like to take part, please colour the drawings in this page and send them back by email to: asociacion@produnas.org. Please indicate the name and age of the child, and the school s/he goes to. When our lives get back to normal, we will publish the drawings on this same page – we will consult with the Teachers and put together an evaluation Jury with those who would like to help. We look forward to receiving your drawings and we hope you like this idea.

NOTE
If there is another category you would like us to include, please send us an email with your suggestion: asociacion@produnas.org  – we will try to include it the following weeks.

Books and Magazines

THE SILENT SPRING

The Silent Spring (1962), by the American biologist and zoologist Rachel Louise Carson (1907-1964), is a book that must be known. It addresses one of the most serious problems that the 20th century has produced: the pollution the Earth is suffering from. Using easy to understand language, the accuracy of the best scientific analysis and shocking examples, Carson denounced the harmful effects the massive use of chemical products such as pesticides, DDT in particular, has had on nature. It is, therefore, a book of science that goes beyond the scientific universe to enter the turbulent world of “society at large”.

THE VOYAGE OF THE BEAGLE

The Voyage of the Beagle is the most common title of the travel journal that Charles Darwin published in 1839. It was originally named “Diary and Observations”. It refers to the second expedition of the HMS Beagle, which left Plymouth on December 25, 1831 under the command of Captain Robert FitzRoy. Although the voyage was planned to last two years, it was to be 5 years until HMS Beagle returned to England on 2nd October 1836. Darwin spent most of that time exploring the mainland, a total of three years and three months. The remaining 18 months were spent at sea.

His travel memories, as well as scientific annotations related to biology, geology and anthropology that prove the author’s extraordinary capacity for observation are all collected in the book.

Environmental films for family viewing

BEE MOVIE

Barry B. Benson (originally voiced by Jerry Seinfeld), a bee recently graduated from college, is somewhat disappointed in his current job: making honey. One day he meets Vanessa (voiced by Renée Zellweger), a New York florist, and they become friends. However, when he finds out that humans eat honey, he decides to sue them.

THE BIG MIRACLE

In the 1980s, a journalist (John Krasinski) and a Greenpeace volunteer (Drew Barrymore) set out to save a family of majestic grey whales that have been trapped by the ice in the Arctic Circle. To achieve this, they have to count on the help of the local Inuit community, the oil companies and the United States Army. In the Cold War, a kind of temporary truce develops. Story based on real facts.

WALL.E

In 2800, on a devastated and lifeless planet Earth, after hundreds of lonely years doing what it was built for – cleaning up the garbage on the planet – the small robot WALL-E (acronym for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new mission in his life (in addition to collecting useless things) when he meets a modern and shiny explorer robot called EVE. Together they will travel throughout the galaxy and live an exciting and unforgettable adventure …

Family games

TUTTI FRUTTI

It consists of taking a sheet of paper and deviding it into columns in which different options will be written down and have to be completed. For example: proper names, countries, capitals, animals, flowers, food, etc. Whoever starts the game will say out loud the letter A, and will continue silently with the alphabet. The person sitting to his right will say “STOP” and the person who started the game will say out loud the letter he had just arrived at. With that letter, for example L, each of the columns must be filled in.

GUESS WHO?

This is an ideal game for several people to play. One will think of a character and the rest must guess who it is by asking questions that can only be answered YES or NO.

WORD CHAIN

A classic of student camps and car trips that can be played just as well at home and by several people of all ages. The aim is to take the last letter from the previous word to form a new word.   For example: the first person says “banana” and the next person says “apple”. That can continue like this: banana – apple – elephant-tomato… and so on.
