Hulia and Pepa return to the sea off the coast of Marbella
On Thursday, 13 August, two loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta), Hulia and Pepa, returned to the sea after successfully completing their recovery.
- Hulia was rescued last June in Almería with plastic wrapped around her neck and had also ingested plastic while trying to free herself.
- Pepa, meanwhile, was found in March in Rincón de la Victoria suffering from a respiratory problem.
After receiving the necessary care and recovering at CEGMA (Andalusian Marine Environment Management Centre) and the Seville Aquarium, both turtles were able to return to their natural habitat.
The release took place approximately two miles off the coast of Marbella, where Hulia and Pepa began their journey back into the wild.
Stories like these remind us once again of the serious consequences that waste, especially plastic, can have on marine wildlife. Every small action counts when it comes to keeping our seas and coastlines free from litter.
