EXCEPTIONAL NATURAL MONUMENT “DUNAS DE ARTOLA”
Year after year it is attracting ever more interest among foreigners. They suggest actions and activities we should take but these do not always fit in with what is acceptable in a Natural Monument.
Let us clarify things for our readers: The dune system sustained by the top soil of the area of the Natural Monument must be maintained by its own vegetation ensuring the least possible human involvement.
Everything that is done must therefore be limited to the eradication of Foreign Invasive Species (FIS), the clearing of undergrowth so that flash fires can be avoided, the cleaning up of garbage to keep the dune environment in optimum condition,
Very importantly: the wind has to be given free rein to blow the sand around. Obviously therefore no reforestation should be carried out.
