SHIELDING THE SAND DUNES OF MARBELLA

To ensure an effective and sustainable conservation over time, our Association submitted our new initiative
“Ecological Reserve – Sand dunes of Marbella”

to the relevant Authorities and the Town Hall of Marbella.

This designation shall guarantee to shield the entire sand dunes system in the munici- pality of Marbella from any attempt of abuse encompassing the 12 different and unique existing dunes areas. It will serve as the perfect shield to protect this legacy for future generations.

The 10-year history of our group reaches its height by achieving this goal. It was worth it to work intensely and tirelessly for all these years, and having been the promoters who have contributed to the preservation of the sand dunes as ‘Natural Assets of Andalucia’ brings us great satisfaction.

The presentation of the project has been warmly welcomed by the Hon. Town Hall of Marbella, the Regional Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning and the Coastal Demarcation of Mediterranean Andalucia Authorities.

The chosen name: “Dunas de Marbella” (Dunes of Marbella) identifies and highlights the location of the sand dunes system in the province of Malaga and will be a reference for the general public as well as Authorities. The sand dune strip recovered along 17km of coastline represents an invaluable natural heritage of great cultural relevance and covers an area of approximately 500.000m2

We are well aware of the responsibility we have taken on, and have submitted many projects that have raised the interest and support of the relevant Authorities. This legacy will be part of the environmental education presently received by close to 1.000 school children through our initiative “Sponsorship of sand dunes by school children”.
