DUNE AREA “TORRE REAL”, Torre Real – Río Real
2021 – What ProDunas has wanted to do for years has become a reality: To look after and advance the health of this little dune stronghold that languishes between the sea and the Río Real Urbanisation.
When the work on the coastal path began, we carried out the Dune Conservation Project including reforestation plans. We asked for maximum collaboration from the Marbella Town Hall, begging that this tiny environment be sealed off with chain link fencing, since it had dune vegetation such as: Sea Restharrow (Ononis ramosissima), Wild Olive (Olea europaea), Tamarix shrub (Tamarix) and small flora such as Sea Daffodil (Pancratium maritimum), a plant that only blooms in midsummer and is the flagship of ProDunas.
Unfortunately, the work carried out on the coastal pedestrian path has completely destroyed this dune environment. A vast amount of work must now be done to establish new dune vegetation:
RECOVER: Sealing this dune environment with wooden stakes to avoid the trespass of trucks and placement of wind catchers to create new dune.
REHABILITATE: Eradicate the Giant Reed which are appearing with enormous speed
REFOREST: If we get the support of the Town Hall to remove the reed shoots, we can schedule reforestation towards winter 2021.
Any and all work must be coordinated with ProDunas Marbella to avoid further delays or the spreading of invasive vegetation.
